Psychological Counselling
Counselling/Therapy sessions are of 50 minutes duration. Sessions may include parents only, parent and child together or the child only, depending on the issues. Counselling sessions often have a problem-solving focus and aim to provide the child or adolescent with skills, strategies and resources to use to assist in managing their difficulties.
Psychological Assessment
Psychological assessments measure the child or adolescent’s psychological functioning. It may be specific – eg. assessment of an anxiety disorder, or a more general assessment of the child’s overall level of psychological health.
Cognitive Assessment
Cognitive assessments provide information about the child’s overall level of intellectual functioning as well as language processing, reasoning, attention, visual processing, planning and organisational ability, verbal and non-verbal learning and memory. A cognitive assessment will assist in the identification of learning difficulties, as well as in the identification of giftedness.
Educational Assessment
Educational assessments measure the child’s academic achievement in literacy (reading, writing, spelling), numeracy and oral language. The assessment instruments used are diagnostic and provide specific, detailed information about the child’s strengths and weaknesses in these areas.
Scholarship Preparation
This involves providing information about the type of test that will be given (this will differ depending on the school offering the scholarship), an opportunity to sit a ‘practice’ test, feedback on performance and provision of strategies for sitting a scholarship examination.
